It is now only a matter of time before Spanish tactician Unai Emery is confirmed as the manager of Arsenal and according to Skysport reporter Kaveh Solhekol, the incoming boss could spend as much as £90million on the signing of a player.
Arsenal decided to appoint Unai Emery over Mikel Arteta after talks with the former Arsenal Captain stalled. An announcement over the deal for Emery is expected to be made sooner.
Before interest in Arteta, Arsenal had been linked with the signing of a plethora of central defender and it was said that the Gunners had budgeted £50m for the transfer of players. Nonetheless, Solhekol claims Arsenal will sell players and the recouped funds will be added to the budget.
The reporter went further to claim that Emery would be allowed to shatter Arsenal’s tranfer record to sign a player.
“I think what you have to say is that when it comes to finances, Arsenal are one of the leading clubs in the world,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News.
“If they want to sign a player for whatever amount of money it takes, they can sign that player.
“Of course we’ve been led to believe that the transfer budget that the new manager will been looking will be about £50m this summer.
“But you can add to that pot any proceeds they get from selling players.
“If Unai Emery says that he wants to buy players for £50m-60-70-80-90m, well Arsenal can afford to spend as much as it takes to get the players that he wants.
“But of course one of the things that Unai Emery will be well aware of, he has to fit into the management structure at Arsenal.
“He will have to work closely with the chief executive, the head of football relations and the head of recruitment.”
