There have been conflicting reports about Arsenal’s interest in Torino striker Andrea Belotti in recent days.

I’m sure the name Belotti doesn’t sound strange to Gooners as the player in question has been linked with Arsenal since the beginning of the season.

Last year, reports emerged that Wenger is seriously interested in signing the striker after being impressed with the player’s form.

And Torino director Gianluca Petrachi fuelled speculations last week when he claimed Arsenal had made a €65m bid for the striker which was rejected but the Evening Standard via the Daily Star claim Arsenal are yet to make an official approach for the 22 year old.

Arsenal scouts have been monitoring the striker for well over a year and he has impressed Wenger with his performances.

It is true that we are exploring the possibility of signing the striker but claims that we have made a bid is well off the mark.

Speaking to Sky Italia during the weekend, Petrachi said:

“We received and refused a €65m offer from Arsenal for Andrea Belotti, but it does not reflect the value of the player,” he said

“Anyway, he is going nowhere for now.

“We want to enjoy him, then we’ll see what happens.

“We intend to keep Belotti and president Urbano Cairo signed this important buy-out clause.

“I think he’s worth more than they have offered.”

The Evening Standard understands that Arsenal won’t make any major signing until next summer, meaning there is no truth in claim that we made a bid for Belotti.

I really don’t know why Torino chief made those claims but it is obvious that the Turin based club are thriving on other club’s interest in their star man.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have also scouted the striker this season and it could just be the Italian club is trying to spark a bidding war between all interested clubs in a bid to drive the player’s price up. I doubt Wenger would fall for that tactics.
