Tottenham Hotspur have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Eibar defender Florian Lejeune, according to The Mirror via Tribal Football.
Lejeune has been hugely impressive for Eibar this season and is currently being linked with a move to the Emirates.
It’s being claimed that Arsenal have opened talks to sign the centre back and a deal is expected to be completed when the summer transfer window opens.
But now we are set to face some form of competition from Spurs who have also been impressed by the centre back.
Lejeune reportedly has an £8.7m release clause in his contract and that won’t be a problem for any of the Premier League clubs.
It could now come down to the player’s preference and I believe we should hold an advantage over Spurs if it comes down to this. Arsenal have a successful history of working with French players in the past and that could just influence his decision.
The defender should look no further than his compatriot Laurent Koscielny who joined us as an unknown player from the French League in 2010 and is today one of the best centre backs in England.
Lejeune joined Eibar from Manchester City last summer. While at City, he had loan spells at Agde, Istres, Villarreal, Brest and Girona but since leaving the Etihad permanently, he has become settled and is now showing his true quality.
At 25, the defender still has lots of room for improvement to become a top defender for us in the future.
