Hector Bellerin has confirmed he is going to remain at the Emirates, amid reports linking him with an exit.
Barcelona and Manchester City are reportedly interested in the defender, with both clubs said to be preparing blockbuster bids for the defender.
Despite signing a new long-term contract in November, reports in Spain didn’t stop linking the defender with a move back to the Camp Nou.
Although it was always going to be difficult for a deal to happen, Bellerin has now poured cold water on the rumors, insisting he is not leaving the Emirates.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Bellerin declared his love for Arsenal and his desire to remain here for a long time.
“I signed my contract for a reason. I signed it because I wanted to be here. I wouldn’t have done it otherwise,” said Bellerin.
“Arsenal is the club that gave me the chance to be a professional and since the first time I met with the boss he’s always said if I progressed the right way I could be an Arsenal player for a long time.
“I’ve been here nearly six years and I love London. I’m still discovering the city.
“The other day, I was out in the car in east London thinking I’d never been there before. That’s what I like about the city.”
Bellerin’s comment will come as good news to Gooners who are keen to see our star players remain at the club. Reports of an exodus has been mooted in the media following our failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Bellerin, Sanchez and Ozil have all been linked with other clubs with some reports claiming our lack of UCL football would push them out but that doesn’t appear to be the case. We now hope Alexis and others follow Bellerin in committing their futures to the club.
