Arsenal target have dropped a bombshell ahead of the summer transfer window.
Germany international Benedikt Howedes has revealed that he turned down a transfer to Arsenal to remain with current club Schalke.
The 27-year-old centre-back has been heavily linked to Arsenal in recent months, but has now confirmed, that he won’t be quitting the Bundesliga this summer for the Premier league or Serie A, with AC Milan also keen.
“I am able to confirm that Arsenal and AC Milan have been really keen on my services,” he said.
“I wouldn’t say that I have chosen against them, but simply that I have decided in favour of Schalke.”
“My job here is not yet done and after the disappointment of last season I do not want to leave this way.”
“I am a key player of this club and I am staying.”
Howedes who has been at Schalke for 15 years and as captain of the side for four seasons, looks on course for an extended career at the club; and it would take a lot to get him off the books at Schalke, following his recent comments.
