Nacho Monreal has rejected reports that he could leave Arsenal this summer, insisting he wants to stay here for many more years.
Monreal is being tipped to leave the Emirates this summer as Wenger prepares to carry out an overhaul of the squad.
One position the boss is keen to strengthen is the left back position and reports have claimed, both Monreal and Gibbs could be allowed to leave the club to provide space for younger quality players.
However, Monreal who turned 31 in February feels he is an important part of Wenger’s plans and he doesn’t have any intention of leaving the club.
“I have a couple of years left at Arsenal,” he told Goal, as quoted by The Daily Star.
“I am very happy there, I feel very valued in the team, and I am quite fine.
“It is grateful that there are teams that are interested in me, and you never know where you are going to finish, but right now I am happy at Arsenal.”
The defender’s contract doesn’t run out until 2019 and will be under no pressure to leave.
I’v always thought it wouldn’t make sense to allow both Gibbs and Monreal leave despite the obvious need of a new left back.
And Monreal who has started 24 of our Premier League games this season is more likely to stay.
Celtic’s Kieran Tierney and Valencia’s Jose Gaya are the two defenders said to be on Wenger’s summer wishlist.
