Arsenal new signing Lucas Perez has revealed the club first tried to sign him in January, via the Daily Star.

The 27 year old completed a £17m move to the Emirates on Tuesday and has revealed Arsenal have been interested in his services since last winter transfer window.

Wenger had spent the whole summer trying to sign players like Lacazette and Vardy but was unsuccessful. When it looked like the club would not be signing any striker in the summer transfer window, Wenger made a move for Perez and the deal was swiftly concluded. The striker has now revealed Wenger has been keeping tabs on him for a long time even though the offer came late.

He said: “The Arsenal offer came just days before the end of the transfer window.

“But I knew about the interest of Arsenal for a long time. They showed interest in me during the January transfer window but then I couldn’t leave.

“They also showed interest in me after the end of La Liga. But then, they have their way of working and the offer came only days before the end of the market.”

Perez scored 17 league goals last season for Deportivo La Coruna and Wenger who monitored the striker all year long must have been impressed by what he saw. Arsenal fans will now be hoping the Spaniard hits the ground running immediately for the club.
