The man who handles the business of the likes of Mario Balotelli, Zlatan Ibrahimovich and Paul Pogbas has made a huge revelation on the future of one of his clients, Henrikh Mkhitarayan, stating the midfielder’s desire to move on from Dortmund at the end of this season.
The 26-year old Armenian turned Liverpool down in 2013 in favour of a move to join Jurgen Klopp’s beaten Champions League finalists with the hope of helping the team go one better. Things have not quite gone to plan since as they have neither been able to repeat that feat nor wrestle, from Bayern, the BundesLiga title. This season’s incredible decline which leaves them bottom of the pile on the League table with relegation staring them in the face has tipped it for Henrikh and he will now look elsewhere for his European aspirations.
“Henrikh wants to leave Dortmund at the end of the season,” Raiola said, according to Daily Mail.
“We will have to wait and see what we can do”
The Italian football agent ranks alongside Jorge Mendes as the most influential deal brokers in World Football, and usually they get the best deals for their clients when they want it. Raiola’s statements after the World Cup in Brazil last year had raised the anticipations of gooners about a possible arrival of Mario Balotelli last summer but Wenger did not appear convinced enough to make the move, what can now thankfully be described as a dodged bullet.
Mkhitaryan, though, is a decent playmaker who could add some quality to a good number of top teams in the Premier League and if Raiola says he will be open to a move to England in the summer, you can expect the Gunners not to be without competition in the pursuit. Liverpool will take another throw of the dice at him knowing they have to sufficiently bolster their squad again if top-four/title challenge is to be serious.
Arsenal’s winter business was basically focused on defensive additions which opens the possibility that the summer will be more about adding a bit more strength to the midfield areas. Mikel Arteta, Mattieu Flamini, Abou Diaby and maybe Tomas Rosicky could see their roles in the team reduced from next season, opening up room for one or two imports into midfield.
Mkhitaryan is more of a Number 10 but he has thrived in various midfield systems at Dortmund, and we don’t need to be reminded how much Wenger values versatility as one of his core values when assessing a transfer target.
But, then, you know how it is with these agents. This could be a ploy to get Dortmund to add some filler to Mkhi’s current deal which runs out in 2017. Still, this is one to keep an eye on.
