Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in Monaco youngster Kylian Mbappe.

Arsenal were linked with the French youngster earlier in the season and it was claimed that Wenger was seriously keeping tabs on his development.

Wenger who has likened Mbappe to Gunners legend Thierry Henry has now come out publicly to confirm his interest in the lad and has urged him to follow the footsteps of our all-time highest goal scorer.

Mbappe is currently excelling in Ligue 1 and has been very impressive this season.

“He is not exactly Thierry Henry but it is true that he has similar qualities and the future and talent is similar,” Wenger told the Ligue 1 show, as quoted by the Express.

“The potential is similar, after that if he has the same level of motivation, desire and intelligence that Thierry has, and the next two to three years will tell us that, then he can be very promising.

“The guys that have super talent are already playing at 18. Those who are not playing at 18 or 19 do not have that exceptional talent and he does play over here at the top level.

“He is a guy who is electric like Thierry was, can dribble, can pass and is efficient.

“We follow him, we know him very well, and he is developing well.

“He extended his contract with Monaco last season and so it’s Monaco who is going to decide his future. He could be another Thierry Henry.”

Mbappe’s potential is huge, no doubt. The few times I have watched the youngster play, I see a younger version of Henry in him but whether he can match the achievements of our greatest striker remains to be seen.

Arsenal will provide a very good platform for the winger to attain such heights as we have successfully helped other youngsters become top players in the past. I’m sure he’d want to take that path.
