Arsene Wenger believes his team made mistakes in the Premier League game against Burnley on Sunday.
The Gunners required a last minute winner from Laurent Koscielny to take all three points at the Turf moor. It was a controversial goal which wouldn’t have stood had the referee spotted Koscielny’s hand ball but the team was happy with the win.
Wenger who admitted the team was a bit fortunate on the evening has revealed his players made too many mistakes on the pitch and that was why it required a late effort to secure all three points.
Although the boss was happy with the teams “motivation” level, he admitted that the players were far from their best.
The manager said “It’s a big win because City lost.”
We were five points behind them and when you are five points behind a top quality team, when you have an opportunity to get a bit closer you cannot miss it. And that would’ve been the negative aspect of our game today had we not won.
“I must say, I am long enough in the job to know that you feel disappointed if you are in Burnley’s shoes because they gave absolutely everything and you can understand that they are a bit gutted to lose a game like that because they had put all the effort in to get the result.”
“Look it was a big test for us because I think we were motivated, we had the attitude right and our legs were not as dynamic as in recent games,” he said. “Our technique as well, we made some technical mistakes today.”
The win helped Arsenal close the gap between itself and league leaders Manchester City to two points.
It is good news that the team could win even when they weren’t at their best. Although luck played a part but these things, especially lucky decisions going your way is needed to win the league.
