Arsenal and Manchester United are set to go to war in the race to sign West Ham playmaker Dimitri Payet, according to a report in Tribal Football.
Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the Winger’s situation at West Ham with a view to making a move this winter transfer window.
Wenger is a long time admirer of the playmaker, having followed him since his time at Lille and is believed to be open to the idea of bringing his compatriot to the Emirates.
Jose Mourinho is also keen on strengthening his squad and is also keeping an eye on Payet. According to the Daily Star , both clubs are set to go head to head in the race to sign the playmaker after Man Utd asked sources close to the player to keep them updated on happenings surrounding the player.
However, a report in the Daily Cannon is claiming West Ham will not sell Payet at any price in January.
This is understandable because the East London side are struggling in the bottom half of the log table and will need to keep their best players if they want to avoid battling for relegation.
West Ham’s not-for-sale warning is not expected to put off interested clubs after the player personally refused to rule out a move away from the club.
But I do not think Arsenal will push for his services this winter, perhaps next summer. Wenger has more than enough options available to him in attack and it would be difficult to get a place in the squad for Payet in January.
Payet has scored two goals and provided three assists in the Premier League this season.
