Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on bolstering his side in the January transfer window for the second half of the 2015/2016 season.
Arsene Wenger is surprisingly relaxed over pushing for a new and improved deal for Costa Rican forward Joel Campbell, according to Standard Sport.
Though Campbell signed a long term deal before heading on loan to Villareal last year, it was a contract offered to a player on the fringes of not just the first team but the squad. A year on now, unsurprisingly, a lot has changed and Campbell was again expected to go out for another loan spell last summer but he however remained at the club.
The Costa Rican star has since gone on to impress when his chance finally came due to injuries sustained by several of his teammates. His outstanding displays since his goal scoring display at Swansea in October after being handed a rare start have kept him in the first team at the expense of the fit again Chamberlain.
Unsurprisingly, clubs have begun to show interest in Campbell with Galatasaraay chief amongst them; but Wenger seems to be relaxed about offering the forward an improved deal. He however rates the player highly
“I flat-refused to let him go because I saw something in him that gives you belief, because of his attitude,” Wenger said.
“I thought always the attitude was there. But after Olympiacos, in a game where we had a knife on the throat, he turned up with something special – great teamwork and a pass for (Olivier) Giroud on the second goal that was massive for us.
“And then I thought ‘he can play under pressure as well, which is important for us’.”….
So why the delay Arsene?
