Arsene Wenger believes he has finally found the world class striker Arsenal fans have been yearning for all these years in Alexis Sanchez.

The boss has received criticism for his inability to sign a top class striker over the years and he appears to have silenced his critics this season with his managerial skill.

Wenger made signing a striker in the summer transfer window a priority but as usual, he was unable to attract any of his top targets and had to turn to Sanchez to lead the line.

Although the French man brought in Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna, the Spaniard wasn’t the striker most Gooners wanted.

The Chilean has now adapted to his new role in impressive fashion and has scored 13 goals in 17 league games this season.

Just like Sanchez, Henry was shifted from the wing to the centre forward position and he went on to enjoy a lot of success at the club and Wenger has backed Sanchez to follow suit.

“Sanchez was happy out wide because in his head he was a wide player. When I moved him, honestly it was not a problem. He accepted it very well,” Wenger told reporters.

“I had to persuade Thierry. I don’t know if it’s my greatest achievement. You see that the guy who plays wide can score goals and that he can score even more goals in the centre. I always saw this in Sanchez.

“Although I must honestly say I thought many times when I played him as centre-forward last year, or two years ago, that I was wrong. Because the few times I played him through the middle were not convincing. But this year it clicked very early in the season.

“He has developed very well as a centre forward because he has found a good mixture between coming short and going in behind. He has more freedom as well and he takes advantage of his short technique in the middle much more.”

Sanchez form has definitely vindicated Wenger’s inability to sign a world class striker in the last transfer window but the French man will face criticism again if he fails to persuade the Chilean to sign a contract extension.
