Arsene Wenger has given an update on the future of Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Santi cazorla, via The Express.
Cazorla is into the final year of his contract while Chamberlain is closing in on the final 18 months of his contract.
The duo’s future have been up in the air in the last few months with some reports claiming this could be their last season at Arsenal.
But Wenger has responded to the speculations and has revealed that talks to extend the duo’s contract are ongoing with an agreement close.
Wenger also revealed that there are other players who the club are looking to tie down to new contracts, suggesting that the club’s priority is to keep most of the current players.
“We have a lot of work to do but you are only interested in two cases,” he said. “We have started talking to Ox. We’ve started with Santi as well and will certainly extend with him. We will work with Giroud as well, and on many players.”
Cazorla’s contract talks will excite Gooners the most considering how important the midfielder is to our squad. There is also cause to be excited about Chamberlain because he has started to show that he can fulfil his potential.
Santi Cazorla has always insisted he wants to remain here and I’m sure he will be excited now that the club has opened talks with him. The former Malaga man was already attracting interests from the likes of Juventus, Atletico Madrid as well as Valencia and a new deal will end those clubs hopes of signing him.
