Arsene Wenger is prepared to hold showdown talks with Thierry Henry over the former striker’s comment about Arsenal, according to a report on ESPN.
Thierry Henry, who is Arsenal’s record goal scorer claimed during the week that he has never seen Arsenal fans as angry as they were in the second half against Swansea City and that comment seems to have annoyed Wenger as the Gunner’s boss is prepared to talk with the former striker. Wenger further added that the player’s themselves aren’t happy when thet lose a games especially at home.
Wenger had previously stressed the need for the fans to stick with the players as we enter into the closing stages of the season and he believes Henry’s statement could instigate fans to turn their back at the players on the pitch.
Wenger also said Henry couldn’t judge the mood of the fans at the Emirates because “he sits in the best seat in the stadium”. Wenger also stopped shot of criticizing Henry publicly but said he’d talk with his compatriot privately.
“You cannot say they were never as angry as that. Who can measure that? Who can compare that?” Wenger told reporters.
“Do you want your fans to be happy when you lose a home game? Where do you see that? So it doesn’t look to me like a major statement. The fans are unhappy, I am unhappy, and we are all unhappy. If you were in our dressing room after the game, you would see that we were absolutely devastated to lose the game, the players. Nobody moved for minutes and minutes. It’s normal. Why would you want people to be happy when you lose? It’s quite remarkable that you are shocked by statements like that.”
“I tell people what I think face to face,” Wenger added. “Thierry Henry will not play for Arsenal. His comments are like any other comments. They cannot help us win, nor be an excuse for us to lose. We have to focus on our own strengths.”
