Arsenal’s past few games have seen the blooming maturity of two youngsters in Hector Bellerin and Francis Coquelin and fans can only be more excited with the news that two more upcoming players will soon hit the ground running proper on their exciting Arsenal careers, starting on Monday night.
After nearly a year since his last game, 19-year old German – Serge Gnabry will return for his first start as 17-year old new signing Krystian Bielik turns out in Arsenal colours for the first time when the Under-21s face Newcastle-U21s.
“Serge Gnabry will play on Monday night at Newcastle, with Bielik. Bielik is coming along very well”
Gnabry had a very desolate 2014, much similar to that of Theo Walcott, in which he missed the majority of the 2013/2014 campaign, making only five starts though he netted his first Arsenal goal in that win over Swansea. He is so highly rated by Wenger as one to go far to become a top player and the manager is delighted to have him back, though he would need nearly a month to be fully in tune with first team duties.
Given how long he’s been out, the Under-21s will be the perfect opportunity to gradually usher him back into first team engagements, and we may expect him to be involved more with the main action probably from the FA Cup game against Middlesborough. Gnabry should benefit from the number of players that have gone out on loan this season and his availability could help Wenger manage his personnel better, making a good mix for the different competitions in which the team still competes.
While we already know what to expect from Gnabry, the Under-21s game will be the chance to get a first rating of Krystian Bielik. He has arrived with a good rating from those who have seen him play in Poland but we all know the terrain is a little different in England and if he is to prosper with the first team, he must be good enough to put in a convincing showing against his compatriots at that grade.
He may not be in full shape, though, as he did arrive from Poland while on a mid-season break, so it may not be the game where the Arsenal coaches know how much value they may expect to get from the £2m spent.
