Arsenal have targeted Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard according to reports.

In November, The Sun newspaper claimed Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wants to take advantage of Mesut Ozil’s contract renewal saga at Arsenal.

It was claimed that United are prepared to meet the player’s wage demands and will just keep a close watch on developments at the Emirates with the hope of making a move when the time is right.

More than a month after the report, contract talks with Ozil have not made any progress which must have given interested clubs like Man Utd a huge boost but Wenger is not prepared to let him move to Old Trafford without a fight.

The Sun now claims Wenger has set his sight on Manchester United youngster Lingard as revenge to their interest in Ozil.

Lingard’s contract at Manchester United expires at the end of next season also and a new deal at Old Trafford isn’t forth coming.

Wenger is prepared to offer the 23 year old winger a double your money deal at Arsenal which will see him earn around £120,000 weekly at the Emirates.

Lingard is seen as one of England’s brightest talents and given Wenger’s penchant for signing the country’s best talents, I wouldn’t be surprise if he has the winger on his radar.

The report claims Wenger will have no problem offering Lingard a six-figure weekly wage but will not be able to meet Ozil’s demands.

The England youngster is not a bad player but can never be compared to the German so I don’t think a move for Lingard will see Ozil move the other way.

Wenger recent statements about Ozil running down the length of his current contract if he doesn’t sign a new deal should be an indication that Arsenal will not allow him join a rival club at any cost.

We will continue to fight tooth and nail to keep the German here as he has been vital in our superb form this season but if he doesn’t renew his contract, we could be forced to sell him to a club abroad, definitely not a rival.
