Charlie Nicholas believes Alexandre Lacazette and Virgil van Dijk are ‘ideal’ targets for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger this summer.
Arsene Wenger completed his first signing of the summer last week, bringing Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac to the Emirates from Schalke.
But after an underwhelming campaign, in which Arsenal finished fifth, the boss is being urged to oversee a significant spending spree.
Wenger has suggested that the club will only make ‘two or three’ major signings but Nicholas believes more activity in the transfer market is needed.
‘Wenger needs another top midfielder player with Santi Cazorla out,’ the Gunners legend told Sky Sports.
‘Raphael Varane or Virgil van Dijk would be ideal at centre-back and Alexandre Lacazette is the striker I wanted and hopefully the Atletico Madrid transfer ban means we’ve got a chance.
‘We need a solution to Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil now. I think Ozil will stay but Sanchez will probably go and losing 30 goals is really damaging.’
Arsenal are said to be one of multiple clubs expressing interest in Dutch defender van Dijk. Liverpool had hoped to secure his signature but dramatically pulled out of the transfer race.
Lyon striker Lacazette, meanwhile, has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Emirates and recently admitted he is interested in the Premier League.
