Arsenal fell to two goals in five minutes which consigned them to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the Hawthorns after taking the lead through Olivier Giroud.
The Gunners looked to be on their way to another victory after Giroud’s tap-in only for James Morrrison’s volley and Mikel Arteta’s own goal to turn the game on its head. We look at how each player performed.
Petr Cech: 5.5
Couldn’t do anything for the first goal, but should have stopped the second.
Hector Bellerin: 5.5
An unusually bad day for the young Spaniard, was week against his opponents and didn’t offer Sanchez much support
Laurent Koscielny: 6.0
Despite the bad performances of those around him, he wasn’t troubled defensively, stood strong and held his own well.
Per Mertesacker: 5.0 (FoTM)
Wasn’t convincing in defence, though wasn’t to blame for either goals.
Nacho Monreal: 5.5
Didn’t have much to do defensively, and didn’t contribute much to the attack
Francis Coquelin: N/A
The Frenchman didn’t last long enough to make any impact on the game, came off after 10 minutes through injury.
Santi Cazorla: 5.5
Another poor game from the Spaniard, couldn’t unlock West Brom defence with his passes and went on to miss a penalty
Mezut Ozil: 6.0
Another bright performance for the German who was one of the few Arsenal players who had things going well for him, had excellent set piece deliveries including the assist for Giroud’s goal, he went close to scoring one himself when he hit the woodwork.
Keiran Gibbs: 5.5
Showed why he is no longer an attacker, Lacked the cutting edge and clinical nature of an attacker, he just let the game pass through him.
Alexis Sanchez: 6.5 (MOTM)
Was Arsenal’s biggest attacking threat, his movement was difficult to track by the West Brom defence, won the penalty and was generally let down by his team mates.
Olivier Giroud: 6.0
Did well to score the opening goal, but was well bossed by Olsson all evening, spurned a couple of chances.
Arteta: 2.0 (FOTM)
Was an unfortunate early sub, came on early for injured Coquelin, conceded the free kick for the equalizer, scored an own goal and got injured himself, was later replaced by Flamini.
Came on for injured Arteta and added much more to the midfield, you begin to wonder why he wasn’t brought on earlier
Joel Campbell: 5.0
Came on for Gibbs, proved sharper but spurned a good chance which will not stand in good stead for him.
