If Arsenal does not finish in the top four this season and qualify for the Champions League is will result in a huge disaster for the club. With both star players Ozil and Sanchez in contract negotiations it is unlikely both will stay without playing in the world most prestigious competition.
If they leave the club it will mean a summer of rebuilding and it should start at the top with Wenger. The club has not moved forward over the last decade and losing the two players that the team is built around will be a difficult job for any of the top managers in the world.
If the Gunners are going to qualify for the Champions League they will need to win almost all their remaining matches.
The Gunners cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over London rivals West Ham at the Emirates on Wednesday night to move above Manchester United to fifth on the log albeit on goal difference. With Arsenal’s remaining fixtures of the season being:
Crystal Palace – Away
Middlesbrough – Away
Sunderland – Home
Leicester City – Home
Tottenham Hotspur – Away
Manchester United – Home
Stoke City – Away
Everton – Home
As you can see they have matches coming up against the relegation favorites over the coming weeks but if they pass that test it gets a lot tougher to pick up all three points. In their last four matches, they have a North London derby against Spurs, are at home to a resilient Manchester United, away to bogey team Stoke and finish with a tough home game against Everton. If they are not in the top four by the time these matches come along, it is hard to see them qualifying.
They also have a semi-final to look forward to in the FA Cup in the middle against Manchester City who they managed to draw with recently to end their patch of two successive defeats in the EPL.
The team still look shaken after the humiliation in the Champions League against Bayern Munich which they lost on aggregate 2 – 10. If they get heavily beaten again in the semifinals something is greatly wrong with the players and managers mentality.
Wenger needs to learn from Sir Alex Ferguson and know when it is time to get out and now is the time. Ferguson knew he had an aging squad and it needed complete rebuilding so got out at the perfect time. Since his departure, the club has struggled to recover and this is the first time the team has taken a forward and not backward step.
The Gunners need to learn from these mistakes and build a team with a winning mentality that is loyal to the club.
This summer is one of the most vital in the club’s history and any mistakes made will set the club back. It is time for someone new with a vision for the future to take over so the rebuilding can start.
