Arsenal Hitman, Afobe celebrates his goal for MK Don against Bradford.
Yet another goal from Benik Afobe, and some are already asking if we could recall him in January.
The big 21 year old striker has continued an excellent loan spell at MK Dons with a series of brilliant performances over the past week, scoring twice againts Bradford to earn the Dons a passage to the next round, and a goal against Bristol Rovers in a defeat. He has now entered double figures for the season and proving that he has a big role to play at the Emirates when he returns.
Perhaps, the ONE we’ve been looking for.
With the array of attacking talent in the team, Afobe is sure to have the backbone on which to exploit his strength and pace to the good of the team. Danny Welbeck has quickly settled into the team, largely due to the ever available support from the likes of Ozil and Alexis, with Chamberlain sprinting the other way. Afobe has the stature and confidence of a real target man.
His hold up lay is superb, while a great burst of pace will serve as a potential nightmare to even the most composed of defenders. His abilities are so remarkable that not only is he on the same level with one of England’s most potent strikers of all time at Under-16 level, having equaled his record of 4 goals, he has also drown comparison with the great Ian Wright, who is only second to Thierry Henry on the all-time Gunners chart. His work rate will complement the energies of Ramsey and Wilshere, as well as taking advantage of the growing British core which can only lead to better understanding within the team.
Benik had begun to show signs of a tremendous career in waiting, with 40 goals in just one season, the 2007/08 campaign. The acceleration up the age ladder did not see a drastic decline in that return as he maintained an impressive tally of goals. His progress in the Arsenal set up lay side by side with graduations in the England set-up, as he was a key member of the team that were brought back England’s first ever UEFA trophy at Under-17 level in 2010. His impressions in that tournament earned him a place in the Team of The Tournament for the tournament which featured current Arsenal striker, Yaya Sanogo, new Valencia sensation and Arsenal target Paco Alcacer, as well as Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba.
An exciting collection of players are gently brewing at the Emirates, and Benik Afobe is genuinely one of those who are poised to lead that new generation. Chuba Akpom, Isaac Hayden and Hector Bellerin have all been impressive, while the likes of Kris Olsson would still hope to return with a bang.
