Arsenal and several other big clubs have been placed on red alert as summer transfer target Asmir Begovic seeks Stoke City exit.
This report is according to the Express, who claim that the Stoke shot stopper is set to exit the Britannia Stadium in the summer after falling down the pecking order at the club.
Begovic only has a year left on his contract at Stoke and is due for contract talks in the summer. But due to a recent drop in his form, the Bosnia International has been dropped in favour of hugely impressive Jack Butland.
This has led to Begovic’s exits plans, placing some of Europe’s big clubs on red alert for his signature in the summer.
Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid are all monitoring the situation of the £15 million-rated goalkeeper with intent to move for him in the summer.
The report also says that Potter’s boss Mark Hughes wants to give 22-year-old Butland some game time ahead of the European Under-21 Championships this summer, hence confining 27-year-old Begovic to the bench for the remainder of the season.
“Asmir wants to play every game, but I explained the reasons behind my decision,” he said.
“I’m very fortunate to have three excellent keepers, so whoever I pick I’m going to get a decent performance.”
“It wasn’t a big decision. It was one of those where I felt it was the right thing to do.”
“I spoke to Jack earlier in the year and said that if I felt there was an opportunity for me to give him game time then I’d do that.”
“It was a good time because it was a game of significance, and he needs to be exposed to those games rather than dead rubbers.”
