The race to sign FC Porto striker Andre Silva appears to be getting tougher by the day, according to a report in the Daily star.

Silva has been one of Porto’s best performers this season, in the process confirming his status as one of Europe’s brightest talents. His performances have attracted a host of top Premier League clubs, including Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger is said to be in awe of the youngster’s quality and had mandated scouts to keep tabs on his development with a view of making a move in the summer transfer window.

However, it appears we will face serious competition for his services as we are not the only ones monitoring the striker.

According to the Sun, as many as five Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the striker’s development.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City all sent scouts to watch Silva in action.

Arsenal are believed to be the most interested in the striker, having kept track of his development for more than one year.

However, we decided against making a move for the youngster in the summer transfer window when he was available for about £22m. Porto managed to tie him down to a new contract and his release clause is now £53m, more than twice the amount we would have payed had we made a move in the summer.

Silva is a very talented player and has scored 13 goals in 17 appearances for both club and country this season. So it is not surprising to see that he is attracting this much interest.

It is always a thing of pride seeing our club challenging for the best players but whether we will activate his release clause or lose out to our rivals is something we will have to wait to find out. Hopefully, we will be able to lure him to the Emirates.
