Crystal Palace have moved ahead of Everton, Newcastle and Southampton in the race to sign Calum Chambers, according to reports.
Chambers is being linked with a move away from Arsenal, after an impressive season on loan at Middlesbrough.
It doesn’t look like he has a place in Wenger’s squad for next season and could be allowed to leave if a suitable bid comes in for him.
His former club Southampton were believed to be leading the race for his services but that has changed since Palace indicated their interest in his services.
According to The Croydon Advertiser via HITC Sport, the Eagles are now favorites to sign the 22 year old.
It is believed that a fee in the region of £15m – £20m would be enough to sign the defender but as of yet, none of his suitors have come up with an official bid.
Two of his suitors Everton and Newcastle United have both signed centre backs and may have dropped their interest in him.
Again geography could be another reason why Palace have surged ahead of other suitors in the race to sign the defender. Staying in London with Palace may have appealed more to the defender who has played only 36 times at Arsenal since he joined from Southampton in 2014.
