Arsenal forward Theo Walcott is set to drop his ambition to play as a centre forward and settle for a spot on the right wing as he plans to reinvent himself in the squad next season.
The forward had previously claimed he wants to play as a centre forward but after failing to impress when deployed in that position, he is now willing to secure the right wing spot.
“I have been here 10 years,” Walcott said. “There is always competition for places. It doesn’t matter what club you are at. I always believe that I can get back to where I want to be. I’m sure if I keep working hard then I will get there.
“I have told the manager that I want to be known for playing on the right again. I can play up front. I want to know where I want to play. The manager has said I can play up front. It depends on what game it is.
“I know I can do a job up front, as well as on the right. I want to make my position on the right – that’s where I know I am now.”
Walcott had a poor season with the Gunners last year and failed to impress. He has been linked with a move away from the club this summer but it appears the 27 year old is determined to stay and fight for his future at the Emirates.
The club is desperately in search for a top striker and Walcott has realized he would have a better shot at the first team as a winger.
