Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out a move for Olympic Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette which has lead many to insist he’s closer to signing the striker than believed, via a report in the Squawka.
Wenger’s search for a striker is no longer a secret. The French man is seriously working to sign a striker this summer and recently made a bid for Jamie Vardy.
He had been hopeful of signing the England international but the striker opted against a move to the Emirates in favor of a new contract at Leicester City. This forced Wenger to focus on other target and top of Wenger’s list is Lacazette.
The striker is heavily linked with a move to the Emirates with reports claiming Wenger is preparing to hold talks with the player’s representatives.
When questioned about a big money move for the striker, Wenger refused to rule out the possibility of signing the striker.
“I can neither confirm or deny interest [in him],” Wenger told Canal+ (via Squawka), when asked about a bid for Lacazette. “If I say that I like the player it starts speculation.”
The striker is expected to cost as much as £40m, West Ham are also in the race to sign the striker and recently had a bid rejected for his services.
Lacazette scored 21 league goals in 34 appearances for Lyon last season and it is believed he will be able to challenge Olivier Giroud for a spot in the starting xi should Wenger move to sign him.
