The Gunners recorded a 2-0 win to send them back to the top of the table pending the result of Leicester’s next game, it wasn’t a typical easy Arsenal performance, and there were a number of talking point from the, we now examine some of them.
1 Giroud needs rest
Olivier Giroud was practically being tortured with every run he made on the pitch today, the Frenchman was laboring all evening, with fatigue evident in his game, he couldn’t even fight for the ball, and was easily outran whenever he chased the ball, while the Frenchman showed incredible commitment to labor on and even helped with an a nice assist, it must be noted that Giroud has played almost every minute of Arsenal’s games in the last two and a half months, while others are being rested, the Frenchman has always been overlooked, now the fatigue is affecting his performance, and Walcott is back, its time he took a rest. Evidence from his performance in the first half of this season shows that he would be vital to any success Arsenal are to have this season, leaving him fatigued and overworked is a big risk for Arsenal, both on the injury and form fronts.
2 The fringe players need more game time
Four players came into the line-up today and it was evident in the slow start to the game. Chamberlain, Chambers and Gibbs looked shaky at the beginning, but as the game wore on and they began to get proper feel of the ball, they got into gear and Bournemouth was dismantled, keeping these players on the bench for long periods and giving them only 10 minutes of game time when they are finally brought on is not helping both the players and the club. Wenger needs to improve on his rotation.
3 Chambers might just be a very good option in central midfield
Callum Chambers was called in to fill the Coquelin void in the absence of Flamini, despite a shaky (which look likely to be more down to lack of game time than positional change) he found his footing and was very good in midfield, he complimented Ramsey well, and did well even under pressure. He was bought as a right back, Wenger sees himas a center back, and has been playing him there, he started out playing in central midfield in Southampton’s youth team. His versatility will be key to Arsenal as the season wears on, with the chances that he would fill in all these roles very high. But he seems very comfortable in midfield and might just be the backup they are looking for.
