Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho is targeted Arsenal and Manchester United.
William Carvalho: 22, Portuguese, Sporting Lisbon
Carvalho has a desire to play in the Premier League sometime in the future, though he would have expected to have made the move this last summer. He says he grew up watching Arsenal and has some affection for Henry, but the fact Louis van Gall has also shown a strong interest in him would mean we won’t have an unhindered access in signing him. Sporting, though, are not willing to let him go in January, with a bumper new deal which is set to increase his salary five times. He has the size and potential to be a world beater, but he’s probably beyond each at the moment.
Sami Khedira could be Arsenal’s first signing in January.
Sami Khedira: 27, German, Real Madrid
Khedira’s been linked with Arsenal since Sir Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin, yet there’s still the uncertainty over where he really wants to go. Or at least, the conflicting media reports want us to think so. We still remember Podolski’s interview bomb in the World Cup and Khedira’s own reaction was an inclination that showed agreement. Yet, he apparently refused to come to the Emirates because of some disagreements in wages. Madrid are willing to let him go for anything within £10 million, it’s good value if he could give us the defensive shield we need. He is a world class player in his right, a good holder of the ball, but not necessarily a ball winner, at least not as good as…
Schneiderlin, The final piece to Wenger’s gig-saw puzzle.
Morgan Schneiderlin: 24, French, Southampton
He is the PERFECT modern-day midfielder, the one Wenger would have to do anything to bring in this winter. Schneiderlin has shown why Southampton were so desperate to keep him in the summer, having witnessed the exodus of so many of their star players last season. Going by the performances of those players who left the St. Mary’s for supposed bigger clubs, you would say Schneiderlin has had the better season till now. Playing in the shadows of the Lamberts and Lallanas, we probably didn’t know just how much of a general Schneiderlin is in midfield and it does seem he has overcome the desire to move on in the summer. Still, Wenger must still tempt him with the lure of Champions League football in January as well testing the Saints resolve to keep him. He may still bear a secret desire to make that big move and having been prevented from joining Tottenham, Wenger could make an inviting offer to him. One thing’s for certain, Schneiderlin will walk straight into the Arsenal team at the moment and indeed any Premier League team, besides maybe Matic.
But Schneiderlin is even better than the Chelsea midfield man. He has shown the excellent technical aspect of the game which has seen him hit the back of three times in the League with sumptuous strikes. Schneiderlin possesses a physical presence which Arsenal clearly lacks in midfield, dependability on the ball which Arteta has stopped showing, a toughness which Flamini has shown he never really had. He’s only 24 and maybe in lowly Southampton now, but if we don’t move for him this winter, Bayern, Barcelona or Real Madrid won’t let him pass.
He’s so good he alone may end up gulping all of the transfer money, £25 million yeah?
So be it.
