Arsenal have opened talks with Sporting Lisbon over the transfer of William Carvalho, according to reports.

Carvalho is a long time Arsenal target and has been linked with a move to the Emirates several times in the past but nothing concrete has materialized.

It appears Sporting are now willing to sell the defensive midfielder and have indicated they will accept a €30m for him.

That figure is €15m less than the midfielder’s release clause and Sporting hope it will encourage player’s suitors.

According to the Record via The Express Arsenal are watching with keen interest and are preparing a bid for the midfielder.

It wasn’t stated if the Gunners will meet Sporting’s €30m price or not but it expected to be an improved bid on the unsuccessful €23m bid we launched two years ago.

Newcastle and West Brom have also been linked with the midfielder and have both made unsuccessful approaches this summer but they would likely renew their interest if he becomes available.

However, Record suggest the midfielder could snub the advances of the PL duo as he prefers a move to Arsenal, his boyhood club.

In a related news, Italian journalist claimed on twitter that Arsenal are already in talks with sporting over the transfer of the midfielder.

He tweeted: “Arsenal are in talks with Sporting for William Carvalho.”

Whether Arsenal are already in talks or not remains to be seen but it does seem our interest is real and we expect this news to gather pace in the next few days.
