Arsenal are about to resign Wellignton Silva from Fluminese just one year after letting him return to his native Brazil, according to The Daily Cannon.
Growing up, Silva was one of the brightest talents you could find in Brazil and Arsenal were quick to snap him up. Having moved to North London at 17, big things were expected from the winger but he never lived up to those expectations and didn’t make a single league appearance for Arsenal before he was sold to Fluminese last year.
Just one year after his return to Brazil, he has started to show the promise that made Arsenal sign him when he was still a teenager.
Luckily, the club was smart enough to include a clause that would allow them acquire 50% of Silva’s economic rights when he was leaving for Fluminese last year.
After a good season in Brazil, Arsenal are set to activate that clause which would see the player return to Europe. However, he will not be coming to North London as Arsenal plan to sell him to Bordeaux.
The French club are prepared to pay £3.5m to Arsenal for the forward which I think would be a good deal for a player who doesn’t have a future at the club.
Fluminese are apparently open to the idea of letting Silva go because of financial troubles and will be keen to trim their wage bill, so there shouldn’t be any stumbling block to the deal happening.
The winger scored seven goals for the Brazilian side last season.
