Arsenal could suffer a little set back in its attempt to sign Jean-Michel Seri, according to Football.London via the Daily Cannon.
Wenger hold a long-standing interest in the Ivory Coast international and it was thought he will step up his interest after Nice Champions League qualifier match against Ajax last Wednesday.
It was claimed that the French club’s CL fate will have an impact on Arsenal’s pursuit of the midfielder and after Nice sealed qualification to the next stage of the playoffs, Arsenal may now find it a bit difficult to sign the midfielder
According to Football.London, Arsenal would now be forced to pay all of Seri ‘s £33m release clause to sign him.
The report claims Arsenal had hoped on signing Seri at a reduced price but Nice progression means their hands have been strengthened to keep the midfielder.
Nice were never prepared to sell the midfielder for less than his release clause but they might have been forced to if they had failed to qualify for the Champions League.
I believe Arsenal should be prepared to pay the player’s full release clause if necessary. Considering the rate of inflation in the current transfer window, £33m is obviously a bargain for a player with Seri’s quality.
However, we may want to wait a little longer until the CL playoffs are completed later this month, if Arsenal insist on signing him for less than the clause. We may get a chance to sign him for less if they fail to reach the group stages.
