Arsene Wenger will now turn his attention to signing a winger after completing the capture of Alexandre Lacazette.
Lacazette joined Arsenal in a club record £52m deal this week but Wenger is not prepared to rest on his laurels just yet and is planning a bid for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.
Wenger had identified the Monaco winger as a priority target in May but attempts made to sign him has been unsuccessful.
Last week, the French champions turned down a bid worth £30m from Arsenal for the winger, insisting he isn’t for sale at any price.
But The Mirror are claiming Monaco have had a change in heart and will reluctantly sell for £80m.
The fee being quoted is meant to deter Wenger but Standard Sport reckons the boss will still try to sign Lemar now that he has completed that of Lacazette.
Arsenal will be hoping to reach a compromise with the French club but if they insist on the £80m, we may have to turn our attention to other targets.
Riyad Mahrez is believed to be an alternative to Lemar and Wenger will be hoping he can sign either of the duo before the start of next season.
It is understandable why Monaco are desperate to hold on to Lemar, considering they have lost Bernardo Silva to Man City and are on the verge of losing Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea. Any further sale would make them look like a supermarket.
