Arsene Wenger seems not to be deterred in his attempts to sign AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar this summer, with Arsenal returning with an improved £40m bid after having an initial £30m bid rejected by the French side.
The French club have soften their stance on not wanting to sell their winger this summer with an £80m price tag placed on his head to ward off suitors after rejecting a first bid from the Emirates.
But all that has changed with fresh reports claiming Lemar is not far away from becoming Arsenal’s third summer signing, with the 21 year old star agreeing personal terms with Arsenal.
Lemar who is known to have a close friendship with Alexandre Lacazette has now become the Gunners main target after they completed the signing of the Lyon forward last week.
According to French newspaper L’Euipe, the Gunners have now made a new £40m bid in an attempt to test Monaco’s resolve.
Arsene Wenger is keen to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season in the face of possible departure of some key players, and he sees the 21-year-old playmaker as a good option to do just that.
However, with 3 years left on his contract Monaco are under no pressure to sell the man who contributed 14 goals and 14 assists from 41 appearances in all competition last season in their run to the Champions league semifinals.
Manchester United and Tottenham are said to also harbor interests in the midfielder but Arsenal are the only team to make bids so far, and should the Gunners seal the deal, their chances of a trophies this season would be high.
