Arsenal had had a previous bid of £30m rejected by Monaco, but have been given the green light to sign Lemar after upping their bid.
According to the Sun, Monaco were holding out for £80m, but have since decided to let the player go as the French champions continue to reap the rewards of a buy low, sell high transfer policy. The transfer strategy has so far worked for Monaco as the team won the French league last season and made it to the Champions League semifinals.
If Lemar does arrive at the Emirates, as is expected now, Arsenal will have spent nearly £100m in the summer transfer window. The Gunners have already bought striker Alexandre Lacazette and sealed the free transfer signing of former Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac.
While Lemar will be Arsenal’s third summer signing, it looks like the club will keep striker Olivier Giroud at the club. Arsene Wenger has recently blocked the Frenchman’s move to Lyon, and the manager stated Giroud wants to remain in North London. Mesut Ozil is also likely to stay and is on the verge of sealing a new contract.
Lemar would add another dimension to Arsenal, who are suddenly spending money in the summer transfer window. If the club were to keep Alexis Sanchez, along with the additions already made, Arsenal would be a strong team for the Premier League title next season.
