Arsenal have rejected Crystal Palace £16m bid for Calum Chambers, according to The Telegraph.
Chambers has been linked with Southampton, Everton and Crystal Palace this summer but it is the Eagles who were first to submit an official bid for the defender.
However, Arsenal have now turned down Palace’s £16m bid in view to making more money from the sale.
According to The report, both clubs are still in negotiations and Arsenal are hoping to get around £20m for the defender.
It is claimed that Crystal Palace initially wanted Chambers on loan but both clubs are now close to finalizing a permanent transfer.
£20m for a player who has made just 36 appearances for the club since joining three years ago is good business for Arsenal.
Chambers never had a definite role in Arsenal’s first team, having played as a right back, a centre defender and a defensive midfielder since he joined the club.
He has subsequently fallen behind Rob Holding in Wenger’s pecking order despite being ahead of the former Bolton man in the U21 set up.
Wenger who looks likely to stick with a three at the back formation next season is reportedly on the lookout for a new centre defender and will want to use the windfall from Chambers’ sale to get one in.
Virgil Van Dijk and Kalidou Koulibaly have both been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent says and Wenger will step up his interest in either of them after Chambers’ sale.
