French defender Mathieu Debuchy has revealed he was denied a move to Manchester United in last winter transfer window deadline day, via SkySports.
The defender who had been out of the Gunners starting xi since the beginning of the season made a deadline day loan switch to French Ligue 1 club Bordeaux but the 30 year old has now revealed that he was approached by Manchester United prior to his move to Bordeaux but Wenger blocked the move.
Debuchy says he was frustrated after Wenger blocked the “Magnificient offer” he received from the Red Devils.
“I was disappointed, obviously. If I had the chance to go to Manchester United it would have been magnificent,” he told Canal+.
“Unfortunately it wasn’t the case. I discussed it with the coach too, who said that obviously he couldn’t help out a rival.”
Debuchy made just two league appearances for the Gunners this season before his switch to Bordeaux.
The defender moved to the Emirates in the summer of 2014 from Newcastle for a fee believed to be in the region of £12m.
