Arsenal are deliberating on a shock transfer that would see them finally solve their goalkeeper uncertainties next season.
This report is according to the Mail per The Metro, who claims the Gunners are considering pushing through the £13 million transfer of Bayer Leverkusen shot stopper Bernd Leno.
Arsenal have been linked with a handful of goalies in recent weeks following reports of uncertainties in the capability of both David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny.
Both Chelsea’s Petr Cech and Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas have been sounded out as Wenger’s key goalkeeper targets in the summer. However, the Mail says the French boss have identified Leno as a viable option in the summer.
The reports also says that Arsenal have sent scout to watch the 6 ft 3 in tall German in action in recent weeks and are said to have been impressed with his performances.
The former Stuttgart man, though only 23-years-old, has a considerable wealth of European experience having made his debut in the Champions League for Leverkusen at age 19.
The Gunners however, would have to match his £13 million release clause – a fee which would be regarded by many as a steal for a high rated goalkeeper who has also been considered a future German number one.
