Arsenal have rejected a £44m bid from Manchester City for Alexis Sanchez, according to a member of the player’s entourage via the Metro.
The Chile international has been linked with a move to Manchester City all summer but Wenger has remained adamant he won’t sanction a switch to a rival club.
This has left the player powerless and it is believed he is now resigned to staying at the Emirates and then leave for nothing next year.
PSG and City are the two clubs that have been linked with the midfielder all summer but a source close to the player has now revealed that it is only City who have made a concrete move for the 28 year old.
‘Manchester City’s last bid was €50m (£44m) and Arsenal rejected it,’ a source told Chilean newspaper El Mercurio.
‘Now the club are preparing a new offer to see if they can convince the people of Arsenal.’
‘Everything that has been said about Paris Saint-Germain is speculation,’ continued the source.
‘There is nothing real. The only concrete offer that exists for Alexis is City.’
With two weeks left in the transfer window, Wenger will be more determined to keep Alexis Sanchez because there is little time to sign an adequate replacement.
Apparently, Sanchez has had his head turned by City’s interest but Wenger believes the Chilean will still give his best even though he is forced to stay.
