When teenage dreams don’t work out, the adult tends to take steps backward just to make a new surge towards glory.
For Mbame Niang, the much raved about 17-year old (then) has gone from being the subject of a battle between Arsenal and AC Milan to going to jail for an alleged hit and run, but perhaps his career may have the chance to come back on track if reports according to Express of a possible move to Newcastle this month is anything to go by.
The player’s agent has reportedly met AC Milan’s club President, Adriano Galliani to discuss a move away from the San Siro. The French youth International has made just 3 substitute appearances at Milan this term since returning from his loan spell at Bordeaux, and with Inzaghi keen on an attacking core that revolves around Jeremy Menez, Andrea Poli and Kesuke Honda, NInag’s long-term future at Milan has a cumulo-nimbus hovering over it and with some interest believed to be sustained by Newcastle for him, it’s a second chance they want to take advantage of.
It’s been three years now since he made that decision (or, more likely, he that decision made for him) to join Milan in January 2012. Niang has admitted that he was once on the verge of completing a move to Arsenal but for a misunderstanding between both clubs involved. The lanky forward had looked the hot bun at Caen, attracting the interest of the Premier League’s top clubs, even Chelsea.
Newcastle have always shown a strong sensation for the French and you wouldn’t put it past them landing Niang. Milan paid just £2.5m for him and he could even cost significantly less. Wenger could still be interested but the fact is that he’s gone downhill a bit and could need more than lil’ bit help to get him back on track. He won’t play regularly if he comes to Arsenal and so there’s no point. It’s a bogous bonus that we don’t need.
One thing this could do for us is open the door a little more for Moussa Sissoko to move away. Pardew’s departure is expected to instigate some kind of shake up at St. James’s and Mike Ashley may be willing to cash in on his big players to make the number of recruitments to be demanded by a new manager. They won’t Steven Taylor for the rest of the season and may be looking to sign someone as a replacement.
