Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has suggested that Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain could benefit from a temporary spell away from Arsenal.
The 23 year old midfielder has been in and out of Arsenal’s first team this season, completing 90 minutes just once since August and Redknapp believes the player is not getting enough games to help him develop properly.
The Sky Sports pundit believe Chamberlain may need to take a leaf out of Wilshere’s book and follow the centre midfielder out on loan if he wants to realize his potential.
“Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a good player who I love to watch but he quickly needs to realise his potential,” he wrote in his Daily Mail column .
“At 23 he is still not a regular in the Arsenal team. There have been times when he has impressed this season — he has scored six goals and notched his fourth assist in the league with a superb pass for Mesut Ozil to head Arsenal in front against Stoke.
“However I still feel he is playing within himself. He looks fit andstrong but despite starting seven matches in the league so far, hehas completed 90 minutes once.
“I want him to succeed but he must produce regularly and nail down his place or, like Jack Wilshere, he may have to look elsewhere.
“As with Ross Barkley at Everton , I feel he is at a bit of a crossroads. They are both too good not to be playing regularly.”
Redknapp does have a point and it is true that Chamberlain needs regular football at his age to help him harness his potential but it has been nobody’s fault in particular that he hasn’t been able to get it right at the Emirates.
There is competition for places in Arsenal’s midfield and the rapid emergence of Alex Iwobi has made things difficult a bit for him.
