Ligue 1 giants Marseille are reportedly keen on to complete the signing of Arsenal centre-forward Olivier Giroud.
The 30-year-old forward who has struggled for regular first-team football at Emirates Stadium last term and now has found his place under threat after Arsenal signed his compatriot Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon and with Alexis Sanchez likely to remain it is unlikely to see Giroud in the starting XI of Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal will see Giroud as a useful squad player and a reliable option off the bench. However, Frenchman is keen on to play regular first-team football in order to secure a place in his national team ahead of 2018 FIFA World-Cup.
West Ham United and Everton believed to be favoured destination for Giroud if he leaves Arsenal, but now Marseille have joined the race for his signature and will hope that they can lure Giroud back to France, according to Le 10 Sport.
Manchester City out-of-favour forward Wilfried Bony is also on the radar of Marseille.
Arsenal head-coach Arsene Wenger has recently insisted that Giroud will play for ARsenal next season claiming that he’d responded well to the extra competition from his compatriot.
‘Giroud fancies the competition. As a manager, you have him on your back, wanting to play,’ Wenger said last week.
‘He fights hard, you know. I like the way he responds to what’s happening. He is focused and determined and showed that on the (pre-season) tour.’
