Arsenal target Asier illaramendi is closer to making a move out of his club, after Real Madrid decided it’s time to offload him, according to reports.
The Spanish midfielder who joined Madrid from Real Sociedad two seasons ago has not had the best of time at Santiago Bernabeu with Ancelloti preferring Alonso then Toni Kroos to him.
With the appointment of Rafael Benitez he expected to feature in his plans more despite interests from Arsenal.
But Rafa Benitez has made it clear that he will only be a backup to Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, prompting the 25 year old who has also been trackd by Liverpool to consider his options.
Liverpool lead the race to sign him, with long serving player Lucas Leiva set to leave Anfield after 9 years at the club.
He would be seen as an upgrade on the deep lying midfielder, and will partner Jordan Henderson.
Arsenal meanwhile are not short of options in central midfield with the likes of Coquelin, Arteta, Ramsey, Santi Carzola fighting for two spots.
