Anderlecht vs Arsenal: Player Ratings, MOTM, FOTM.

Player Ratings

It was an awful performance to be honest, but the fact we got away with it shows some persons may have to take a bulk of the credit. Getting scared by Anderlecht isn’t something most Gooners would want to start acclimatizing to, but we could get used to having a few players to depend on when the going gets tough. Especially when we welcome them next to the Emirates.

Martinez: 5

The rookie was terrorized much by an Anderlecht side who where determined. Not at fault for the goal. Could have been protected more by the defence.

Chambers: 6

Made good use of his pace to help the attack with a perfectly curled in cross for the leveler. But he didn’t do so much covering his own half and was caught off guard on several occasion. Shows he’d always prefer the centre of the defence rather than running up and down the wings.

Mertesacker: 5

Poor reaction prior to the goal. Made appreciable effort in helping the team in the push for the rest of the game. Needs to be challenged for his place really.

Monreal: 5

Good recoveries given he was a make-shift centre half. Picked up a yellow which meant he had allow himself manhandled a few times by the ever attacking Anderlecht side.

Gibbs: 7

Came alive in the second half after a rather disappointing first. Showed his love and desire for the club and eventually created a space for himself to get the leveler after Inches away from nailing the winner against Hull City last weekend.

Flamini: 4 (FotM)

He showed again that Arsenal still very much need steel in the heart of the midfield and we simply cannot find that in him. Poor

Wilshere: 5

Could have done better given the fact that the other oppositions he battled with were also about his age.

Cazorla: 5

Should have done better with Sanchez’s cut back. Not much afterwards. Disappointing, given the Spaniard’s standards.

Alexis: 8 (MotM)

Only thing he didn’t get off the match was a goal. Ever energetic, great work-rate  ->> Excellent. Brilliant. Man.

Ramsey: 5

Was barely unseen in the encounter except for a few brilliant ball across field. Far from the usually Ramsey. Next game would be a major decider for his fitness level.

Welbeck: 4

We didn’t see the hitman we saw at Galatasaray. Didn’t get serve too often also. Poor

Campbell: 6… Freshness helped stretch the Belgians. Should really, really get more game time.

Podolski: 6… Good to see his physicality back helping the team. Got himself inside the box to send a powerful driving “shot at first sight” for the winner.

Chamberlain: 5….. His freshness helped stretch the Belgians.

Wenger: 6

Not much he could do really, he played his best cards. But he should really believe in his bench more often. Great birthday gift even though it arrived late.
