Aston Villa and West Ham have joined the race to sign Carl Jenkinson, according to reports.
Jenkinson could be set for a move away from the Emirates in the January transfer window as a host of clubs are lining up to take him on loan.
The defender is currently down Wenger’s pecking order and could be set for a move away from the club in January.
Wenger favored centre back Gabriel Paulista ahead of the 24 year old at right back in the last few weeks and this has given interested clubs a huge boost that we may be open to the idea of letting the defender leave the Emirates on loan.
According to Birmingham Mail via Sports Mole, Aston Villa are looking to strengthen its right back position and have identified Jenkinson as a good addition to their squad.
But Villa are not the only club interested in the defender as West Ham were also linked with him last week. The defender spent the whole of 2014/2015 season and half of last season on loan at West Ham before suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
I’m unsure whether Wenger would be willing to sanction Jenkinson’s exit as he wants to have a strong squad available to him for the whole campaign but I think the defender needs to play regularly after his injury.
Since he returned to full fitness in September, he has only made five starts across all competitions this season which I think isn’t good enough for his development and a move away could do the defender a whole lot of good.
