Its devastating news for Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson as he has suffered what is believed to be a season ending injury.
The defender was loaned out by the Gunners to fellow London side West Ham United for a second successive season following a successful loan spell last year.
The 23-year-old had to be replaced by the Hammers new signing Sam Byram after limping off in the early stages of the first-half of last weekend’s draw with Manchester City.
Jenkinson injured his left knee when he caught Aguero as he stretched to attempt a tackle in the course of conceding a penalty in last Saturday’s game. The injury to his knee has turned out to be very serious and it has been confirmed he is set to undergo further tests.
The unfortunate incident has now been confirmed by the official website of the hammers ” Unfortunately, it appears that Carl has suffered a significant injury and he will be assessed by a specialist in central London.
” A further update will be provided when the full extent of the injury has been confirmed”
Should the injury sideline him until the summer, the defender is expected to return to the Emirates for his rehabilitation cutting short his loan deal as he wouldn’t be able to play again this season.
Despite the two successive loan spells away from the Emirates , Jenkinson is rated very highly by manager Arsene Wenger who extended the player’s contract as recently as the start of the current campaign.
