Arsenal loose out on new “English Messi” – Dele Alli.
Arsenal has lost out to Liverpool in the race to sign highly rated teenage sensation. The youngster, dubbed ‘the English Messi’ is set to seal the move to Anfield and will be officially a Liverpool player by January 1.
The 18 year old MK Dons forward – Dele Alli has attracted several clubs with his dazzling displays for the Dons which has seen him mentioned in the same breath as the Barcelona super star. Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal were all thought to be in the mix but it is Brendan Rodgers who has now made the finish line, with a fee of around #8million agreed between Liverpool and MK Dons.
Alli was part of that team that had thrashed Manchester United in the League Cup, with a strong composed midfield performance on the day. Perhaps, it was Alli’s combinations with Arsenal loanee Benik Afobe which prompted Arsenal’s interest in the 6ft 2’ youngster widely regarded as one the brightest emerging talents from England.
A member of the U-19s, Alli had earlier side a new three-year contract with MK Dons last month and it was thought that would be enough to fend off interest from the top clubs. However, Dons Manager, Karl Manager had already had premonitions of his prized youngster’s exit, admitting that he would continue to be linked with the big sides despite the signing of a new contract.
Liverpool have moved earlier than Arsenal in the discussions for the transfer of the player, who will now become their10th signing of this season since the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona. Though not quite a match for the deal we pulled for Sanchez ahead of them, the Reds may believe they have got one over us in the transfer dealings of this season, having bolstered their midfield options with the signing of the midfielder whose first professional touch was a back-heeled pass.
Like they did with Divock Origi, Liverpool will probably permit Alli to return to the Dons on loan for the remainder of the season, so as to keep up with his momentum where he has had regular football.
