Olympic Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed Arsene Wenger will not sell Giroud this summer.
Giroud was the subject of interest from a host of Premier League clubs and French club when Arsenal were closing in on Lacazette.
One of the clubs that enquired about the possibility of signing Giroud was Lyon but the French club were told that the striker isn’t for sale.
Aulas has now revealed they were seriously interested in signing Giroud as a replacement for Lacazette who subsequently joined Arsenal but Wenger refused to sanction a deal.
“I wanted to sign him,” Aulas told Le Progress. “But Arsene Wenger would not sell him… We still have superb young attackers.”
Despite Lyon’s failed pursuit of Giroud, Everton are still pushing for the striker.
However, the Toffees are expected to suffer the same fate as Lyon because Wenger still has no intention to sell.
It is expected that Giroud will provide competition for Lacazette next season and also give Wenger another option off the bench as we aim to challenge for the league title.
Giroud did admirably last season when he lost his place in the starting xi to Sanchez and I am certain he will work even harder to compete with Lacazette next season.
