Arsenal will reportedly try and sign Karim Benzema from Real Madrid should Alexis Sanchez force his way out of Arsenal.

The Gunners’ star forward has made it clear he wants to play Champions League football.

Having indicated he could look to quit Arsenal with less than 12 months left on his contract, Paris Saint-Germain are hovering.

The French club are keen to strike a deal for the Chile international, which would see Arsenal avoid losing Sanchez to Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Wenger, though, is remaining defiant and addressed the issue while on the Gunners’ pre-season tour in China.

The Arsenal boss said: “The decision has been made and we will stick to that. The decision is not to sell.”

However, PSG have reportedly made Sanchez their top target and are not giving up.

If Arsenal do yield and sell the 28-year-old this summer, Spanish outlet Don Balon claim a move for Benzema is in the pipeline.

Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of the former Lyon hitman.

And despite having added Alexandre Lacazette to his attacking ranks, Benzema could prove a direct replacement for Sanchez.

It is said the Arsenal manager was willing to pay more than £50million to take him from the Bernabeu last summer.

Zinedine Zidane, though, refused to let one of his key men leave.

Arsenal may well stand a better chance of capturing Benzema this season thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Don Balon add Zidane has promised the Portuguese superstar he will be the focal point in the team this term and play as Madrid’s striker.

Benzema’s place in the side is subsequently under threat, and this would apparently push him to leave, with Arsenal waiting with open arms for the proven hitman.
