Arsenal are reportedly back in pole position in the race to sign England international midfield star James Milner.
Milner’s contract at the Etihad Stadium is set to end this summer and talks over an extension with Manchester City has been dragging in recent months leaving the player with no options than to exit the club at the end of the season according to reports.
Milner’s situation has attracted interest from several clubs including Liverpool and Inter Milan, with the former reported to be leading the race for his signature at the end of the season.
However, former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has revealed that the soon-to-be free agent is heading to the Emirates at the end of the season.
The Gunners reportedly tried to sign the versatile 29-year-old who can play virtually anywhere on the pitch last summer, but the Citizens kept ahold of him.
The reports also say Milner who currently earns £80,000-a-week at City demands a four year contract to seal the switch.
Wenger admires the hardworking midfielder and could move quickly to finally snap him up ahead of Liverpool as he did with the signing of Alexis Sanchez last summer.
