Arsenal are closing in on Bolton defender Rob Holding, according to reports.
Wenger is keen on the young centre back who is also a target for north London rivals Tottenham and is determined to bring the defender to the Emirates this summer.
Arsenal had an initial bid of £750,000 rejected a few weeks ago and have now returned with an improved offer which could seal the deal.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are hopeful of completing a deal to sign the defender as soon as possible after Bolton had turned down offers from Spurs.
Holding ,21, had a superb season for Bolton and despite the club’s relegation to league one, Holding’s standout performance have attracted top teams in England.
It is believed the Gunners new bid is worth as much as £1.5m for the defender who is being dubbed the next John Stones.
Tottenham, Everton and Bournemouth have all been linked with the defender but the 21 year old has already set his sight on a move to the Emirates.
Wenger wants to sign a number of top youngsters in the country this summer and Holding features prominently in the Frenchman’s list.
The defender is not expected to line up along side the likes of Laurent Koscielny next season but he is definitely one for the future.
